Storytelling Wargaming. Role Wargaming. After watching the campaign book video, I couldn’t help but imagine a session of Infinity…
4 citizens of the Human sphere sit around a 4ft by 4ft table. A fifth individual overlooking the table sits in a chair much taller than the others. His watch and electronic devices are cutting edge. Three hardback books sit at his side. Each bookmarked meticulously with leftover army lists.
The fifth individual spins a tale of intrigue and futuristic combat. The 4 citizens listen closely as the story brings them to a heavily guarded research complex hidden deep in a canyon. Inside a new breed of Shasvastii Seed Embryo held in a cryogenic storage. The Embryo has the potential of turning the tide of war against the Shasvastii it also has a nearly infinite value on the black market.
After the four make it through the canyon defenses, the fifth gets off his chair and from a darkened corner of the room retrieves another 4×4 foam board. Atop it sits the research complex.
All remove their minis as the boards are switched out.
The fifth takes his seat as he clutches a box full of Yu Jing security personal. The four breach security walls and avoid trip lasers, but as they enter the complex. The fifth removes the roof and deploys the yu jing figures. Interesting times are upon us.
Is it possible for the game of Infinity to merge the dynamic story telling of Role Playing Games with the action and scale of Wargaming? Would the DM’s job become incredibly difficult and expensive to keep up with all of the terrain needed for such a hybrid? Will Infinity eventually need a Dungeon Master?
